Community Volunteers

The Bell Center for Early Intervention Programs offers therapeutic services to children ages zero to three who are at risk for developmental delay. The program, located in Homewood, is presently serving 85 children in five different therapeutic programs including Bright Beginnings, Little Leaps, All about Me, Explore Every Day and My Friends.
Volunteers at The Bell Center provide one-to-one assistance to children being served in our toddler programs called All About Me. This two hour program operates very much like a typical preschool classroom. Children participate in circle time, snack time, art activities and music activities. The classroom is lead by a team of professionals including an early childhood special educator, speech and language pathologist, occupational therapist and physical therapist. The classroom schedule and activities are therapeutic in design and promote growth and learning. However, children participating in the program are simply having fun participating in a preschool environment.
Volunteers at The Bell Center commit to working with a child for 2 hours once a week. Each volunteer participates in a brief training session held on the first Thursday of each month at 10:30 am, before starting. The experience of volunteering at The Bell Center is both meaningful and rewarding and our volunteers are vital to the success of our program.
We are currently placing interested volunteers on a waiting list for assignment to a child as we are fully placed at this time. However, because children are added to classes through the year and current volunteers may have other obligations arise, please attend a training session. Your name will be placed on the waiting list and we will stay in touch with you as our needs change. Thanks very much for your interest in working with the children of The Bell Center.
The All About Me program is offered at the following days and times:
Tuesday and/or Thursday
9:30 am – 11:20 am
12:00 pm – 1:50 pm
Wednesday and/or Friday
8:15 am - 10:05 am
9:30 am – 11:20 am
12:00 pm – 1:50 pm
However if these times are not convenient arrangements can be made to volunteer at other times during the week. If you are interested in becoming a Bell Center Volunteer, please contact Denise Williams, Special Projects Coordinator, directly at dwilliams@thebellcenter.org and reserve your spot in our next volunteer orientation.
We look forward to having you as a volunteer and helping a child reach their potential. Thank you for your interest in our program.
